Poperinge played an important part
in the soldiers life in the Flanders Battlefields, firstly it served as a refuge away from the trenches and was usually their first port of call if stationed in the Salient. It's more dark side of history is that it is were the death at dawn shooting's were carried out, you are able to visit a recently refurbished death cell if wished. |
The Belfort Hotel, Poperinge.
The Hotel Belfort is situated on the central square in the heart of Poperinge and close to all the World War I historical sites. An excellent run family hotel with a good restaurant at the centre of this historical town set amongst the hop fields.
A local market is held every Friday morning on the main square in front of the Hotel.
